5 Books That Made a Huge Impact for Me in 2018

books that made an impact

Reading has always been an important part of my life. I used to only read fiction, getting lost in the pages of whatever story I’d be immersed in at the time.

Over time though, I began using books as part of my personal development plan. In many ways, books are an inexpensive form of therapy – although I am huge advocate of having a therapist, there’s been a few periods of time where I haven’t had one. Books were my solution. If I find a book that is especially helpful, I will often put it into a reading rotation, making sure to circle back to it at least one more time.

In 2018, I’ve managed to keep myself on track to finish at least 1, if not 2 books a week. I do listen to audiobooks quite a bit to keep me on track, and count them in my book totals.

These are the 5 books that have had the biggest impact on my life in 2018:

Girl, Wash Your Face, Rachel Hollis

I’m all about personal development, and this book hit me upside the head in all the right places. I love it so much, that I have it in both print and audible, and have read and listened to it at least 3 times this year! It’s a great reminder to me that I am far more capable than I allow myself to think, and to always keep reaching for more.

The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, other than I kept being told I need to read it. What I got out of it the first time I read it was to keep moving towards my goal, but not to lose sight of what I already have. I’m pretty sure that when I read it again, I will get something completely new from it, which is why I believe it to be life changing.

Permission to Screw Up, Kristen Hadeed

This is a great, easy read about how a company was built with no capital, no knowledge, and the determination involved. It also taught me how screwing up (which will always happen when building anything) is ok, and course correction builds character. I read it in an afternoon, and while quick reads don’t usually equate to life changing, I know that I look at how I’m building my side hustle in a new light.

The 5 Love Languages, Gary Chapman

I was recommended this book from someone I respect a great deal, and I have to say that this is the book that is helping me build an even stronger relationship with my husband, and practically everyone else I am connected to. Learning how to relate to an individual’s love language makes it so much easier to connect and receive.

What are the books that the biggest impression on you in 2018? Leave a comment and let me know. I’m always looking for book recommendations!
