What is vapor rub?

When I  have a cold and feel congested, I like to use a vapor rub to help relieve those symptoms. Vapor rub is a topical ointment that many use to help relieve nasal congestion and coughing.

I used to use a name brand rub, however I discovered that it contains a lot of chemicals that I don’t want to use on myself or my family.

How to use vapor rub

Maybe you have never heard of vapor rub, or know how to use it. Typically, it’s applied to the bottom of feet overnight to alleviate the symptoms I mentioned above.  This is how I prefer to use it on myself.

Some like to put just a little bit under each nostril to help open up the nasal airways faster.

Use this super simple DIY to help relieve congestion during cold season. There are several variations, but I like this 3 ingredient recipe the most. I always have the ingredients on hand, and can whip it together in less than 5 minutes.

As someone who suffers from a multitude of sinus issues, I keep this super simple DIY on hand at all times – but especially during the winter months when breathing can be just a little more difficult.

This DIY uses only three ingredients – and none of the questionable things found in store bought vapor rub. Did you know that vapor rubs sold in stores  main ingredient is a toxin if absorbed into the skin, and should not be used on children younger than 2? 

As a Grandma, I’m sure not going to use something on my precious littles that carry a warning label!!

Whip up this super simple completely safe DIY Vicks rub the next time someone in your home is congested.

1 cup coconut oil

20 drops Eucalyptus essential oil

10 drops Peppermint essential oil

Keep in a jar with lid.
